Two arrested for lynching meat trader; accused cops still on the run

Bareilly: On Friday night, police arrested two men, Firdaus Anjum, 48, and Naushad alias Bade, 45, accused in the lynching of a Bareilly meat trader, Mohammad Salim Qureshi, on June 14. The two accused constables are still at large. Four persons, including two policemen, are accused of assaulting Qureshi, who died at a Delhi hospital on Thursday. However, police said that Anjum was already in jail on Friday in another case lodged against him and they arrested him at the jail gate immediately after he came out on bail. Naushad was also allegedly present there at that time.

Four persons, including two policemen, are accused of assaulting Qureshi, who died at a Delhi hospital on Thursday. Police teams are trying to locate and arrest the two accused policemen, who are still on the run.Qureshi, a resident of Saklane Nagar under Baradari police station, had collapsed after two constables, Shreepal Verma and Harish Chandra of Kankartola police outpost, had arrested him near a wedding venue on June 14. Naushad was also allegedly present there at that time. Qureshi’s brother Naim had alleged in a complaint that the constables had threatened to frame Qureshi in a cow slaughter case if he wouldn’t grease their palms.Superintendent of police (traffic) Kamlesh Bahadur, acting senior superintendent of police (SSP) said, “On Saturday morning, Anjum and Naushad were sent to jail. The two accused constables are still at large. We are conducting raids to nab them.”Following the complaint filed by Naim against the four accused, an FIR under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 387 (putting person in fear of death) of IPC has already been lodged.Naim claimed that before their arrest, Anjum and Naushad came to his house on Friday night and took his signature on a blank paper. However, police said that Anjum was already in jail on Friday in another case lodged against him and they arrested him at the jail gate immediately after he came out on bail.
