Bilal was then to be produced at a magistrate’s court.SHO of Katghar, Sanjay Garg said, “We only came to know about the incident from the video, which shows an unconscious Bilal being dragged by the constables down a corridor of the hospital. Now an inquiry has been ordered into the matter and we have sought a reply from the constables about why they did not use the stretcher when Bilal was unconscious.”Garg added that Bilal had no prior criminal record at the police station.

The man was earlier assaulted by a mob and was unconscious when he was brought to the hospital.Mohd Bilal, 25, a resident of Kaurala area under the jurisdiction of Katghar police station was allegedly assaulted by the mob when he was caught stealing a bucket from inside a house in Lajpatnagar locality on Sunday afternoon. Bilal was brought to the police station and an FIR was registered against him under charges of theft on the complaint of the owner of the house.According to officers, Bilal was injured by the mob and was taken by two constables, Sumit (who goes by his first name) and Pradeep Giri to the district hospital. Bilal was then to be produced at a magistrate’s court.SHO of Katghar, Sanjay Garg said, “We only came to know about the incident from the video, which shows an unconscious Bilal being dragged by the constables down a corridor of the hospital. Now an inquiry has been ordered into the matter and we have sought a reply from the constables about why they did not use the stretcher when Bilal was unconscious.”Garg added that Bilal had no prior criminal record at the police station. Investigation into the incident is in progress.The video, which went online and was widely shared shows Bilal being dragged from the hospital’s emergency ward to the main gate, where he can be seen being placed in a police vehicle and moved towards the court.Superintendent of police (city) Ankit Mittal said, “Such inhumane behavior will not be tolerated at all. After watching the video, SSP Goud has suspended both constables and sent them to Police Lines.”
