Six years on, kin of boys mauled by stray dogs yet to get compensation

BAREILLY: An instance of gross negligence on part of local administration has come to the fore in which kin of four deceased boys, who were mauled by stray dogs in 2012 in Baheri tehsil , are yet to receive ex-gratia amount. The then Akhilesh Yadav-led government had announced compensation soon after the incident.On Tuesday, district magistrate (DM) VK Singh asked the additional district magistrate (city) OP Verma to probe the matter and submit the report within a week. Following that the government had released Rs20,000 each to the victim’s kin. “It is indeed a high level of negligence on the part of official concerned. ADM has been tasked to investigate into the matter.

The DM said that sternest action would be taken against the officials responsible for delaying the release of the amount.The matter was highlighted after the state government asked to submit the utilisation certificate of the grant released in 2012 as the local administration is yet to send the same to the government.The DM said the matter came to his knowledge only two days ago. “It is indeed a high level of negligence on the part of official concerned. ADM has been tasked to investigate into the matter. We will take strict disciplinary action against those who will be found responsible for this err,” he said.In 2012, between February to April four boys – Vikas Kumar (6), Arjun (13), Rahul (7) and Sartaj (15) – were killed by stray dogs while one Rehan had sustained serious injuries. The matter was then raised before the state government and the then sub-divisional magistrate Ramesh Chandra and tehsildar Harishankar Lal Shukla had submitted their reports to the district magistrate.Finding the deplorable economic condition of the families who had lost their sons, the then DM had recommended the government for compensation to the kin of the deceased boys as well as for the injured. Following that the government had released Rs20,000 each to the victim’s kin.
