BAREILLY: In order to provide better care for the people suffering from mental illness like depression, stress and anxiety, the Bareilly district hospital has reserved 10 beds for such patients.The hospital had been running out-patient department (OPD) for the patients on three days, but they can be now be admitted here for treatment.“We have reserved five beds each for both male and female wards. Psychiatrists and counsellors posted at out hospital will treat them. The motive behind setting up the ward is that if any person is suffering from any form of mental illness, including depression, anxiety and stress, he or she can be treated here instead of going to a mental hospital. Patients with serious illness will be referred to mental hospital.”Dr Ashish Kumar, a psychiatrist at the district hospital, said, “Majority of the cases we receive here is of behavioural change and dissociated order. The psychotic patients that come here are mostly from various shelter homes.”Mental health cell at district hospital has a psychiatrist, a clinical psychologist, a social worker and other staff. OPD is functional for three days in a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).TOI had earlier reported that over 60% cases reported at Bareilly’s mental hospital is related to depression and anxiety among youngsters who mostly belong to the age group of 25-30 years.
