Seven schoolchildren hurt after tractor hits cart carrying them

Shahjahanpur: Seven schoolchildren received injuries after the two-wheeler cart in which they were travelling was hit by a tractor in Khuthar area of Shahjahanpur district on Thursday morning. Angry locals caught hold of the tractor driver and handed him over to police. The tractor driver was identified as Ranjeet Singh, who is also the head of Laxmipur village in Khuthar. No formal complaint was filed by the childrens’ parents till the filing of this report.“The tractor was speeding and hit the cart while trying to overtake it. We are yet to receive a formal complaint from the parents of the victims.”

The children were immediately rushed to a community health centre where two of the injured were referred to the district hospital in Shahjahanpur city.According to police, all children were students of the Oxford Public School in the district. The tractor driver was identified as Ranjeet Singh, who is also the head of Laxmipur village in Khuthar. Police have seized his tractor. No formal complaint was filed by the childrens’ parents till the filing of this report.“The tractor was speeding and hit the cart while trying to overtake it. Few people caught hold of the driver and thrashed him,” said Sumit Kumar, an eyewitness.Rahul Singh, station house officer of Khuthar police station, said, “The driver of the tractor was beaten up by local residents after the accident. We are yet to receive a formal complaint from the parents of the victims.”
