Going on a vacation, but worried about the furry friends you will have to leave behind? Pet parents in Bareilly are all too familiar with this situation. With hardly any hotels and resorts allowing pets, taking your pooches along on your beach or hilly adventure has usually not been an option. So the only other alternatives when the entire family is going on a holiday are either pet boarding facilities or a friend’s house. However, the situation has changed in the last one year. As demand and queries for pet-friendly vacations rise, many resorts and homestays have started stepping up their game. Pet parents in the city say that pet-friendly homestays are perfect because “our pet can roam around and play with us at the homestay, which is usually a huge property. This is not always possible in pet-friendly hotels.”Earlier, finding a pet-friendly accommodation in your vacation destination would be a difficult task – if not an impossible one. Now, there are many websites that can help you with that. They curate vacation options that your pets can enjoy as well. Exchange of information through social media among pet parents has also contributed to more people travelling with their pets.Harleen poses with her pet Ruie at a resort in Naukuchiatal, NainitalSuman Chickar, a resident of Civil Lines , says, “We took a family trip with our pug, Asterix, a month ago to Mukteshwar and Ramnagar. We searched for pet-friendly locations online and planned the trip accordingly. The properties where we stayed not only had a lot of space for Asterix to roam around but the staffers pampered him too.” Sharmishtha Majumdar, who lives near Izzatnagar, says, “Whenever we take trips by car, we make sure to take our Lab, Eeva, with us. Recently, we visited Mukteshwar where we took her along. She didn’t trouble us while travelling as she has gotten used to travelling in a car everywhere. Also, it is no more a hassle to take your pet on a vacation these days as we have a lot of options across locations. One just needs to do some online research to find such locations. We are planning another short trip to Nainital with our friends, and Eeva will gain accompany us.” Harleen Oberoi, a resident of Model Town, says, “I have travelled to several places, including Rishikesh, Naukuchiatal and Solan with my dog Ruie, a Pekingese. We stayed in a pet-friendly resort in Naukuchiatal. We also did camping in Rishikesh. We are now planning a trip to Dubai. Though it’s expensive to travel with pets overseas, it is worth it.”Bhumika and her daughter with their pet Akira in a Dehradun holiday homeJust like us, pets too suffer from motion sickness and so taking short breaks during such journeys becomes necessary as Raju Bhatia, a resident of Bara Bazaar, tells us, “I recently went on a trip to Goa with my pet Noddy, a Cocker Spaniel. Before starting the trip, we were a bit apprehensive if he will be able to manage such a long road trip. We fed him light food before the journey started. We also kept things like medicines for motion sickness, collapsible dog bowls, extra towels and tissues just in case he gets sick.”Sharing the sentiment Sharmishtha, adds, “Initially, Eeva faced motion sickness while travelling in the hills. But now she has gotten used to travelling. In fact, she travelled to Mukteshwar, which is 8000 ft, without any hassles. But we did take short breaks while travelling so that she can stretch and relax.”Harleen Oberoi adds, “Being a toy breed, it is easy to travel with Ruie. But things get a bit tricky while travelling in hills. This is why I always carry medicines and collapsible dog bowls just in case she gets sick.”Harleen Oberoi with her pet in Solan, Himachal Pradesh The trend of taking pets to holidays is picking up fast in Bareilly as Raju’s wife Jyoti Bhatia, tells us, “We stayed in a pet friendly resort and it was a memorable experience for Noddy and a stress-free trip for us. He was treated like a king at the resort. These pet-friendly places have customised food for your pets. Some places even have small pools for pets. What else do you need for a vacation?” Bhumika Sethi, a resident of Janakpuri, says, “Just a couple of days back, I along with my kids drove on a vacation with our pet Akira, a Akita (Japanese breed), to Dehradun. I stayed at a homestay where they provided separate bedding for him, customised pet food and a garden for him to play in. It was a fun trip for all of us.”Jyoti and Raju BhatiaThough many people are now taking vacations with their pets, resort and homestay owners say that the trend is fast picking up. Shailendra Singh, group general manager at a chain of resorts in Mukteshwar, says, “Queries regarding pet being allowed at our resort are increasing and this shows that the trend is growing. We give a separate bed for the pet. The charges depend on the demand and preferences of the guests. We are getting a good number of clients from Bareilly. This year, 50% of the clients from Bareilly came with their pets and we are expecting an increase in the number of bookings in future.” Sunil Kumar, operations manager at a resort in Ramnagar, says, “The trend of bringing pets on vacation is growing. We host at least five parents with their pets in a month. We ask for their basic requirements and provide accordingly. ”Sharmistha Majumdar enjoying with her pet, Eva, in MukteshwarEva on her long drive to Mukteshwar(L-R) Suman, Vishesh, Vinny and Payal on a pet vacation in an organic village resort in Mukteshwar
