BMC demolishes unauthorised shops, razes dilapidated structures

As many as 10 roadside eateries along with makeshift shops and counters were removed from Choupla crossing, Siklapur crossing, Kutubkhana, and Bisalpur crossing. Most of the removed shops, stalls were occupying road space and were a hindrance to traffic movement in these areas. However, as soon as the team started to raze the structures, a few local residents gathered on the spot and requested them to also act against unauthorised roadside vendors and shops. In May this year, the civic body had initiated action against encroachers in the city following complaints lodged by locals on CM’s portal. Though the eviction drive was opposed by many in the area, we managed to demolish all identified encroachments in both the localities.”Apart from Baankhana, encroachments by local vendors over drains near Math Lakshmi area were also razed.

Bareilly: The Bareilly Municipal Corporation on Saturday went on a eviction spree, razing an unauthorized junk godown in ward number 15 (Hajiyapur), bringing down illegally set up shops, two dilapidated public toilets and a store room in ward number 52 (Baankhana) and removing encroachments on drains near Math Lakshmi area. Civic body officials said that the eviction drive was carried out amidst opposition from local vendors and shopkeepers in these areas.Speaking to TOI, municipal commissioner RK Shrivastava said, “On Friday, BMC’s anti-encroachment team went to Baankhana to demolish public toilets that were posing risk to daily commuters. However, as soon as the team started to raze the structures, a few local residents gathered on the spot and requested them to also act against unauthorised roadside vendors and shops. The offenders were given a day’s time to clear the area. On Saturday, our team went there again and acted against them.”BMC’s eviction team member, Jaipal Patel, said, “A number of local shopkeepers and residents had gathered to oppose the civic body’s move of removing encroachments in the locality following which force from Prem Nagar police station was called for assistance.
