Bareilly: Two days after a 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men, all of whom are her relatives, and later burnt alive in the yagyashala of a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, police on Monday arrested three of the accused persons – Aram Singh, Gullu alias Jaiveer and Charan Singh. The trio was arrested from three different locations of the district when they were about to board buses. The suspects had been continuously changing their whereabouts after the crime, police said.Additional director general of police (ADG), Bareilly zone, Prem Prakash, said, “Aram was held from the Noorpur tri-junction while Gullu was nabbed from Negoha Hasanganj area. Charan Singh was arrested from the Sambhal crossing in Rajpura. All three were waiting to board different buses.”Inspector Varun Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Rajpura police station, said, “We arrested Aram and Gullu in the morning following a tip-off. The two other accused – Mahaveer and Kumarpal – will also be arrested soon.”Police investigation had earlier revealed that Mahaveer is a distant cousin of the victim’s husband. The ghastly crime was committed in a village under Rajpura police jurisdiction in the early hours of Saturday. Officers said that the victim was sleeping when her attackers had barged into her house and brutalized the woman. Later, they dragged her to a nearby temple and burnt her alive in its yagyashala.An FIR under IPC sections 376D (gang rape), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) was lodged against five accused.
