Vehicle lifters’ gang busted, four held; 12 bikes seized

Bareilly: With the arrest of four accused from Selection Point Crossing under Prem Nagar police station, police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an interstate vehicle lifters’ gang and seized 12 motorcycles from their possession.Prem Nagar SHO Balveer Singh said, “We received information about the accused’s whereabouts on Wednesday morning and a five-member team raided the spot and nabbed them. The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar, 24, Durvesh, 22, Ravindra Kumar, 23, all residents of Aksoura village, and Yunus, 27, of Dunka village under Shahi police station.”“We have seized 12 motorbikes from them. All accused used to work as labourer and Yunus was their lynchpin,” said SHO.SHO said disclosing their modus operandi Yunus told police that they would first find motorbikes without handle locks which could be easily stolen. “Then we would hide the vehicle at a secluded place until we find a suitable customer,” said Yunus.Police said the gang used to sell a bike for Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 without papers.The accused have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), and 413 (habitually dealing in stolen property).Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, police arrested one Guddu Shah, 28, from Alampur village under Bithri Chainpur police station, for allegedly stealing two motorbikes and four cell phones and beating six people brutally in Dharupur Yhakuran village on April 21.According to police, five accused had already been arrested and sent to jail. Shah’s friend Majhley, 22, however, managed to flee the scene. Police seized a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from the accused.Govind Singh, Bithri Chainpur police station SHO, said, “Shah of Magi Nagla village under Faridpur police station and his friend Majhley, a native of Nathpur Dhandera village under Dataganj police station in Badaun, were absconding from April 21, when the incident took place. Around 10:45 pm on Tuesday, after receiving information about their whereabouts, a six-member police team raided the spot. Shah opened two rounds of firing at police, but police didn’t retaliate. Later, we nabbed Shah, but his friend Majhley managed to flee. We recovered country-made pistol and two live cartridges from the accused.”“An FIR has already been lodged against both the accused under sections 395 (punishment for dacoity), 397 (robbery), 412 (dishonestly receiving property stolen in the commission of a dacoity) of IPC. We also included section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and section 3/25 of the Arms Act. Interrogation of the accused is on to get information about his friend’s location,” SHO added.
