Temples, mosques in rural areas to have toilets

“At every mosque and temple in rural areas, one toilet will be built. To build toilets in rural areas, funds from Swachh Bharat Mission will be utilized. One toilet will be constructed in each place of worship.Giving details, chief development officer (CDO) Satendra Kumar said they were going to conduct a survey to count all major religious places in rural areas. Bareilly: In a bid to take Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) to another level, a month-long intensive general cleanliness drive will be launched in rural areas from August 1 and will cover religious places. The survey agencies will examine religious places, schools, primary health centres, anganwadi centres, haat bazars and other important places of the respective villages.

One toilet will be constructed in each place of worship.Giving details, chief development officer (CDO) Satendra Kumar said they were going to conduct a survey to count all major religious places in rural areas. “At every mosque and temple in rural areas, one toilet will be built. Besides, for general cleanliness, dustbins will also be put over there. We will also construct toilets at every anganwadi centre and haat bazaar for the convenience of women who visit markets,” he said.The CDO said during the month-long sanitation and cleanliness drive, ‘Swachh gram swachh jila’, a ground report will be prepared to gauge status of cleanliness and on that basis, districts will be given ranking in the state. “The districts that top the list of cleanliness will be felicitated on October 2 in a function in Lucknow,” he said.The steps are being taken following chief secretary, UP government, Anup Chand Pandey’s letter to all district magistrates to this effect.As many as 10 villages from all 75 districts in the state will be randomly selected for checking cleanliness status in rural areas. The survey agencies will examine religious places, schools, primary health centres, anganwadi centres, haat bazars and other important places of the respective villages. All such places attract crowds.“During the survey, feedback will be taken from villagers. To build toilets in rural areas, funds from Swachh Bharat Mission will be utilized. We will build twin toilets at every spot for both men and women at an estimated cost of Rs 25,000,” he added.
