"We kept asking the reasons for the no-confidence motion, but they failed to answer, and he (Rahul Gandhi) clung on to my neck."

Shahjahanpur: A day after the no-confidence motion, moved by the opposition against the NDA government, was defeated in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday mocked Congress President Rahul Gandhi for "forcefully" hugging him in the Lok Sabha. Modi also questioned the motive behind the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition. "We kept asking the reasons for the no-confidence motion, but they failed to answer, and he (Rahul Gandhi) clung on to my neck." He was referring to Rahul Gandhi's gesture on Friday during the debate when the latter walked up to the PM's seat and gave an unreciprocated hug.Addressing farmers at a ‘Kisan Kalyan' rally in Shahjahanpur on Saturday, Modi said opposition parties were running after the PM’s chair and were ignoring the poor, farmers, youths and the country. During his 45-minute-long speech, Modi asked the large gathering, “Are you satisfied with what happened in Lok Sabha yesterday (Friday)? Did you understand what wrong they did yesterday? Are you aware about how they are running after the PM's chair?” As the crowd cheered "yes", Modi continued, “They (opposition parties) cannot see anything else other than the PM’s chair. They cannot see the country, its poor people, youths and the farmers.”“Have I done anything wrong? I have been doing everything for the country, the poor, the youths and the farmers. My crime is that I have been fighting against corruption and dynastic rule (parivaarvad),” said Modi.Slamming the opposition parties, Modi said, “Though I tried to explain to them that playing this game against public wishes can cost them dearly, they were adamant to remove Modi. No one can remove us till the time we have the support of the people. Aaj kal dal k sath dal ho rahe hai, aur jab dal k sath dal ho hate hai toh woh dal-dal ho jata hai. Jaha jitna dal-dal hota hai, waha kamal khilta hai (political parties are coming together (against us), and if political parties come together, it will muddy the water leading to formation of marshland where lotus blooms).”Be it the elephant (BSP) or the cycle (SP) or any other friend of theirs, the country has understood what kind of drama they are playing, said the PM.Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi without taking his name, the PM said, “Kal Lok Sabha me hum unse lagatar puchte rahe ki is avishwas ka karan kya hai, aur jab wo akran nahi bata paye toh woh gale par gaye (I kept asking him the reason behind the no-confidence motion, and when he failed to give any reason, he gave me an unwanted hug.”Recalling that he had promised to announce some good news to sugarcane farmers from across the country when they had come to meet him in Delhi, Modi said his government had included sugarcane among the list of crops the minimum support price of which had been increased.Talking about the steps taken by his government to help sugarcane farmers, Modi said, “Farmers suffer when sugar output is more than the demand. And to help cane farmers, the government has decided to manufacture sugar and ethanol which can be used as bio-fuel. The government introduced a new technology in sugar mills, and because of this policy, production of ethanol will reach 160 crore litres by this year-end compared to 40 crore litres four years ago. This will help generate more income for farmers.”He said the opposition parties never cared about farmers and past governments had no interest in looking for new options to ease farmers' woes. Modi said the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government had started a pilot project to produce ethanol from sugarcane, but the project moved at a snail’s pace during the Congress's rule.Elaborating his government's welfare schemes, the PM said 18,000 villages have been electrified. "If villages remained in darkness even 70 years after Independence, who is responsible? We have decided that all households will have electricity by 2019," he said.
