Pilibhit Dalit villager murdered while trying to prevent abduction of niece

Pilibhit: A 45-year-old Dalit man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by seven men at a village under Bilsanda police station in Pilibhit district on Friday night when he tried to prevent the abduction of his niece. The police have arrested Subhash, one of the seven booked accused who is also the younger brother of Ram Niwas, while others are on a run. The men attempted to abduct Shiv Kumar’s niece, daughter of his brother Kamlesh Kumar. SHO Tyagi said, “An FIR has been lodged against all seven accused under sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting) and 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) of IPC and a section of the SC/ST Act. We will nab all the accused soon,” Tyagi added.

Police have lodged an FIR and arrested an accused.Shiv Kumar was at his house in the village when Ram Niwas, 24, a fellow villager, barged in accompanied by six men, Vijay Pal, Subhash, Ram Naresh, Saroj, Pawan of the same village and Mukesh, a resident of Rathata nearby. The men attempted to abduct Shiv Kumar’s niece, daughter of his brother Kamlesh Kumar. When Shiv tried to resist, he was attacked with sticks and injured, after which the attackers fled the spot.“A Dial 100 police response vehicle reached the spot and Shiv was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” said Bilsanda police station SHO Manoj Tyagi.Praveen Malik, circle officer of Bisalpur circle said, “The girl had eloped with Ram Niwas on May 22 this year, following which Kamlesh had lodged an FIR against Niwas under section 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) of IPC and sections of the SC/ST Act. After police found the girl, it was confirmed that she was a major and she said she wanted to live with Ram Niwas, so she was allowed to.”On August 15, the girl suddenly returned home to her parents, after which the incident occurred. SHO Tyagi said, “An FIR has been lodged against all seven accused under sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting) and 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) of IPC and a section of the SC/ST Act. The police have arrested Subhash, one of the seven booked accused who is also the younger brother of Ram Niwas, while others are on a run. We will nab all the accused soon,” Tyagi added.
