After 14-year-old succumbs to fever in Bareilly, death toll climbs to 35

Bareilly: After a 14-year-old boy in Barinagla village under Kyara block died due to fever on Saturday night, the death toll in the district climbed to 35. After receiving the information, the health department organised a camp in the village on Sunday and ordered verbal autopsy of the case. Meanwhile, a health department team from Lucknow arrived in Bareilly during the day.Poonam Devi, Barinagla village head, said, “Sonu (14), son of Ram Avatar, died due to fever on Saturday night. I had informed chief minister Yogi Adityanath and health minister Sidharth Nath Singh about the deaths and the government has sent a team from Lucknow to check patients.” His sister Rohini had died of fever on Thursday.

His sister Rohini had died of fever on Thursday. Two more relatives of the family are suffering from fever. I informed the health department about the teenager’s death after which a team of experts arrived here and organised a health camp.”Bareilly chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Vineet Shukla said, “I have ordered verbal autopsy into the deaths of Sonu and Rohini. We have found that 19 persons have died due to fever so far. A team from Lucknow visited two villages in Majhgavan block on Sunday. The team will camp in Bareilly for the next four days and will suggest ways to contain fever.”The CMO reiterated that health camps are being organised daily in the affected villages to ensure proper treatment of patients. “Majority of deaths have taken place at houses and not in the hospitals. We have been receiving cases of malaria, viral fever and typhoid. We have been conducting both indoor and outdoor anti-larvae sprays,” said Dr Shukla.Meanwhile, district magistrate VK Singh held a meeting with health department, Jal Nigam and other departments and instructed officials to open a helpdesk to aid villagers. He instructed Jal Nigam to repair handpumps and make sure that the water supplied is clean.UP finance minister Rajesh Agarwal, who is MLA from Bareilly Cantonment, said, “The government is serious about the issue and is taking all possible steps to address the situation. I had informed chief minister Yogi Adityanath and health minister Sidharth Nath Singh about the deaths and the government has sent a team from Lucknow to check patients.”
