Pilibhit: A 26-year-old woman has complained to police that she was given triple talaq and physically assaulted by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Neuria area of the district. The woman said that she was forced to indulge in unnatural sex by her husband and raped by his younger brother. The survivor also said that police had initially refused to file an FIR in the case following which she approached the superintendent of police (SP) Balendu Bhushan Singh.In her complaint to SP Singh, the woman said that she got married in March last year. Soon after the wedding, her husband and in-laws began harassing her for dowry. Her husband had also threatened her with instant divorce if she failed to bring more dowry.“My sister was thrashed on September 7, given triple talaq and thrown out of their house. When she approached the Neuria police station the next day, officers refused to file an FIR. We were then forced to approach the SP for help,” said the survivor’s brother.Station house officer, Neuria, SK Upadhyay said, “An FIR in the matter has been lodged against 10 people, including woman’s husband, his three elder brothers and their wives, her mother-in-law, a sister-in-law and her husband. The accused have been booked under section 498 A (subjecting a woman to cruelty by husband or his relatives), 377 (unnatural sexual acts), 511 (attempt to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or imprisonment), 354 (assault or criminal force to any woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and section 3.4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.”
