Bareilly: Senior superintendent of police Muniraj G has set up an inquiry into an alleged case of “mistaken identity” where a man, Sabir Qureshi, who has been arrested, was wrongfully arrested and forced by police to confess to a crime he never committed.The man, Sabir Qureshi, who shares his name with a criminal, Sabir Mansuri, was arrested from CB Ganj area on September 6 in connection with a factoryloot case.“I have asked superintendent of police (crime) Ramesh Kumar Bhartiya to conduct and inquiry into the case. He will give me a report within three days. If any foul play is found, I will take appropriate action against SHO,” the SSP said.When asked, CB Ganj police station house officer Srikant Dwivedi insisted he had arrested the right man and the accused had also confessed to his crime.The SHO claimed that the accused’s family members are cleverly trying to frame a ragpicker in the town who shares the same name. “We have cross-checked and Sabir Mansuri, the ragpicker, has no criminal record,” he told TOI.
