Bareilly: A man who “desperately wanted a son” allegedly threw his elder daughter, 2, from the terrace of his house in a bid to kill her after his wife gave birth to another girl on Wednesday evening in Perdhauli village under CB Ganj police station.The girl is said to be critical and undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Meanwhile, the accused, identified as Arvind Gangwar of Perdhauli village, fled the scene, said police.According to police, Gangwar, a labourer, wanted a son, but when his wife gave birth to another girl, he threw his elder daughter from the terrace to kill her. An FIR has been registered against him.Station house officer (SHO) of CB Ganj police station Srikant Dwivedi said, “After the birth of his first cdaughter, Gangwar, a labourer, was desperate to have a son. But, his wife gave birth to another daughter on Sunday morning, and he got angry with her. He got drunk on Wednesday evening, and when his parents and wife were having dinner, he took his elder daughter Kavya to the terrace and threw here from there. After the incident, the accused’s father Herpal Gangwar informed Dial 100 and police.”“We rushed to the spot, but the accused had managed to flee the scene. We admitted the girl to a nearby private hospital. Her condition is critical, and she has been under observation in the ICU. Following the complaint by the girl’s kin, an FIR was lodged against her father under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We are conducting raids to nab the accused, who is still at large,” said Dwivedi.
