Swine flu patient dies, 4th death in UP this yr

An alert against swine flu has been sounded across Kheri district. During treatment, we came to know that he was infected with swine flu. Shahjahanpur: A 31-year old resident of Nayi Basti colony of Lakhimpur city who was diagnosed with swine flu a few days ago in Lucknow’s King George's Medical University, died early on Thursday morning. For the past few days, he had been suffering from breathing problems and his sputum had blood. As per the doctor’s advice, we admitted him to King George’s Medical College, where he died at around 6 am on Thursday.

Shahjahanpur: A 31-year old resident of Nayi Basti colony of Lakhimpur city who was diagnosed with swine flu a few days ago in Lucknow’s King George's Medical University, died early on Thursday morning. He is the fourth patient to succumb to the H1N1 virus this year in the state.According to a statement issued earlier by the vector-borne diseases department, UP, from January to September 11, this year, as many as 16 patients have tested positive for swine flu and three have died.The deceased, Mohammed Ateef Mirza, was deported from Dubai on September 4 because of his deteriorating medical condition. On his arrival in Lucknow, he was admitted to a private hospital in the state capital. As he showed no signs of improvement, his family shifted him to Lakhimpur city and retuned to Lucknow two days later, admitting him at KGMU hospital on Tuesday.Mohammed Adnan, Ateef’s cousin told TOI, “Ateef was working in Dubai for the past four years and used to come home once a year. For the past few days, he had been suffering from breathing problems and his sputum had blood. So, he was sent back to India. During treatment, we came to know that he was infected with swine flu. As per the doctor’s advice, we admitted him to King George’s Medical College, where he died at around 6 am on Thursday. He was probably infected in Dubai because he was absolutely fine when he went there four months ago.”CMO, Lakhimpur Kheri, Manoj Agarwal went to meet the bereaved family with a team of medical experts. He also distributed Tamiflu tablets among all those people who came in contact with Ateef, advising them to take a tablet once a day for 10 days.“We have already alerted the medical officers in the district to deal with suspected patients cautiously and move them to the quarantine ward,” the CMO said.
