Bareilly: Deer meat recovered from village pradhan’s house

SHAHJAHANPUR: Shahjahanpur forest department have recovered the meat of a spotted deer from the house of the pradhan of Ladti village under Khuthar block of Shahjahanpur on Wednesday.A fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on the village head, Shanti Devi, and she has been booked under provisions of the Forest Protection Act. The forest department personnel are now searching for Shanti Devi's husband, Surendra Kumar, who brought the meat in the house.The forest department conducted a raid after receiving a tip-off that a deer had been poached in Khuthar forest range and the meat was being cooked at the village head’s house. During the raid, the meat was found in a pressure cooker.Forest ranger of Khuthar Ranveer Mishra who conducted this raid told TOI, “We are investigating this case and a fine Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on the village head. We are also searching for her husband who bought the meat from a poacher active in the area.”On her part, Shanti Devi told forest officials that she was not aware that she was cooking the meat of a wild animal and sought their forgiveness for her ignorance.
