Now, 14 positive cases of dengue reported from Bareilly

Bareilly: After the outbreak of plasmodium falciparum (PF) and plasmodium vivax (PV) malaria in the district, 14 positive dengue cases have come to light in Bareilly. Similarly, with 933 people testing positive for PV cases across Bareilly, the cumulative figure has reached 6,228. In 2017, 284 cases of PV were reported while 395 and 180 persons were found to have been infected with PV in 2016 and 2015 respectively. A private medical college in the district has informed the health department about the number of affected people. Official sources said that the findings came to light after both enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test and dengue card test verified prevalence of the disease.

Official sources said that the findings came to light after both enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test and dengue card test verified prevalence of the disease. TOI had earlier reported how in a meeting between authorities of private hospitals and district magistrate VK Singh, the administration was informed about incidences of dengue.Chief medical officer, Dr Vineet Shukla, said, “We will take samples of infected persons from the medical college to verify their claims. No dengue-related deaths have been reported so far. We have been adopting all precautionary measures to deal with vector-borne diseases, including fogging and spraying of larvicidal solutions.”In 2017, only one confirmed case of dengue was detected, while there were 73 cases of dengue in the district in 2016.With 291 fresh PF cases coming to light on Tuesday, the total figure of the killer malarial strain stands at 2,756. Similarly, with 933 people testing positive for PV cases across Bareilly, the cumulative figure has reached 6,228. A total of 46 people have died due to fever in the past one month in the district. On Tuesday, rapid diagnostic tests were performed on 7,964 persons.According to data accessed by TOI, not a single case of PF was reported in the district in the last four years. Though incidents of PV malaria have been detected in the past years but the figures were much less. In 2017, 284 cases of PV were reported while 395 and 180 persons were found to have been infected with PV in 2016 and 2015 respectively.
