Moradabad: A three-year-old girl was mauled by a leopard in Moradabad’s Muneempur village on Wednesday morning. The girl has received injuries on her head and neck. Doctors at the trauma centre of the district hospital here said she was out of danger. The incident took place two days after an eight-year-old boy was mauled to death by a big cat at a nearby village, situated barely 4 km from Muneempur. Forest officials are trying to ascertain if it is the same animal which had killed the boy.According to police, the girl, Vandana, was playing outside her house in Thakurdwara tehsil when the leopard attacked her and dragged the toddler inside the forest nearby. Her father, Veer Singh, immediately raised an alarm and with the help of other villagers managed to rescue the child.Station house officer (SHO) of Thakurdwara, Manoj Kumar, said, “The girl is undergoing treatment at the trauma centre of the district hospital. She will be discharged soon.”Alleging that the forest department has done nothing despite several complaints of leopard sightings in the area have been made, villagers blocked the Moradabad-Thakurdwara highway for several hours.Moradabad district forest officer, Kanhiya Patel, said, “Muneempur is situated close to the border of Amangarh forest reserve in Bijnor district. The movement of big cats in areas near villages has been observed. We are trying to find out if it is the same animal which had killed the boy on Monday. We have installed cameras at the spot to trap the leopard.”
