Bareilly: A staff attendant at the mortuary in the district hospital has been booked after the kin of a deceased was allegedly asked to shell out Rs 1000 for the body of his brother at the morgue.Kotwali police has lodged an FIR against 29-year-old Rajendra after Rashid, a mediator, allegedly told one Krishna, whose brother Tejpal, 34, had died during treatment at the hospital, that Rajendra had asked for Rs 1000 in exchange for his brother’s body. Both Rashid and Rajendra are absconding.Kotwali police station house officer (SHO), Geetesh Kapil, said, “On Wednesday at around 12pm, the district hospital outpost’s in-charge and sub-inspector Dharmendra Kumar Shukla found Rashid demanding Rs 1000 from Krishna, a resident of Tayatpur village under Bithri Chainpur police station, on Rajendra’s behalf. Krishna had completed all the paperwork and other formalities at the hospital, where his brother had died about an hour ago, but was stopped at the mortuary gate by Rajesh. However, both Rajendra and Rashid have managed to flee the spot.”Kapil added that in the absence of a written complaint from the victim’s side, an FIR was lodged on the complaint of Shukla on Thursday at 4:12 pm.
