Lekhpal booked for trying to kill farmer in Sambhal

Bareilly: Sambhal police on Sunday booked lekhpal (land revenue employee) Gyanchand Taygi and two others for allegedly attempting to kill a farmer who refused to give Rs 10,000 bribe. The farmer had approach the lekhpal in connection with his land records. “After cutting trees, we sought land records which show the two portions as one entity in the name of my uncle. The accused are currently untraceable.Chandra Prakash, a Sambhal resident, said that his uncle Bhagvandas Sharma has a piece of land in the Saidpur Jaskoli village under Asmauli police station. While trees were planted on a portion of the land, the remaining part was being ploughed.

However, Taygi mistakenly sent a wrong report to the administration without measuring our land. When we objected to this and asked him to show us the records, he sought Rs 10,000 bribe,” he said.Prakash added that one of the lekhpal’s aides, who were present at the house where his uncle went to meet the revenue officer, fired at him. “Luckily my uncle survived. The lekhpal’s aide also stole Rs 8,000 from my uncle,” he said.Asmauli police station SHO inspector Rajveer Yadav said, “An FIR under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 392 (robbery) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been lodged against two named and one unnamed accused. They will be arrested soon.”
