Three bike-borne men rob Rs 5 lakh from petrol pump cashier

BAREILLY: Three men on a motorcycle fled after snatching a cash bag containing Rs 5 lakh from a cashier of a petrol pump located on National Highway 24 at Kulchhakhurd village under Meerganj police station area on Monday afternoon. The cashier was going to the bank to deposit the money when the incident happened. On learning about the incident, senior superintendent of police, Muniraj G accompanied by superintendent of police (rural area) Satish Kumar rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.Police said since the bank was closed on Friday due to Muharram, cashier Kunwar Pal was going to the bank on Monday to deposit money collected over the past three days.“I was just a stone’s throw from the petrol pump when three miscreants came on a Pulsar motorcycle and stopped me. They whipped out a gun and held me at gunpoint. One of them pulled out the ignition key of my bike while two others snatched the cash bag and the trio fled,” he said.The SSP said prima facie it seemed that someone close to the victim was behind the incident as he was aware what time the cashier would be leaving and how much cash he would be carrying to deposit in the bank.“We have formed three teams to investigate the matter. Some suspects have also been detained. Very soon, the main culprits will be under arrest,” the SSP said.
