Denied Rs 2 for biscuits by mother, 11-year-old hangs himself in UP

SHAHJAHANPUR: An 11-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide after his mother refused to give him Rs 2 for buying biscuits. His mother, Ram Sukhi, offered him a cup of tea but there were no biscuits at home, so Chandrabhan asked for Rs 2 for biscuits. The family told us Chandrabhan had been upset because he had not got Rs 2 for biscuits, which is why he killed himself. On Tuesday morning, before leaving for school, he asked for a cup of tea from his mother along with some biscuits to eat. His mother refused and told him to finish his tea and leave for school.Chandrabhan then fought with his elder sister and was scolded by his mother for his behaviour.

The incident was reported from Madnapur block in Shahjahanpur district on Tuesday.Initially, nobody including the police believed that the boy, Chandrabhan, had killed himself for such a petty reason, which is why police sent the body for post mortem. The report confirmed death by hanging.Chandrabhan was the eldest of three children of Rajendra Kumar, and used to live in Jharhar Haripur village under Jalalabad police station. On Tuesday morning, before leaving for school, he asked for a cup of tea from his mother along with some biscuits to eat. His mother, Ram Sukhi, offered him a cup of tea but there were no biscuits at home, so Chandrabhan asked for Rs 2 for biscuits. His mother refused and told him to finish his tea and leave for school.Chandrabhan then fought with his elder sister and was scolded by his mother for his behaviour. Thereafter, he went out of the house with the dupatta and didn’t return for quite a while. Later, in the afternoon, he was found hanging from a tree in the crop field of his grandfather Sadhuram. The locals immediately informed family members and police.Rajendra Kumar said, “My son had an impulsive nature but we never expected that a small child of his age could take such a step. All of us are in shock and speechless. His mother now just wants a chance to tell him how much she loves him.”Station house officer of Madnapur police station Ishtiaq Ahmed told TOI, “The body was found hanging from the branch of a dead tree on the border of Madnapur and Jalalabad police stations. The family told us Chandrabhan had been upset because he had not got Rs 2 for biscuits, which is why he killed himself. It was quite an unbelievable reason, so we sent the body for an autopsy. It turns out he did commit suicide.”
