24 labourers trapped under debris after a three-storey school building collapses in Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur: As many as three labourers were killed and at least 24 are feared trapped under debris when the roof an under-construction three-storey building collapsed in Roza area of Shajahanpur on Sunday. All dead were residents of nearby villages.Additional district magistrate (ADM) Vandita Srivastava said, “We are trying our best to rescue those trapped under debris. District magistrate (DM) Amrit Tripathi said, “We will continue rescue operations throughout the night. The building’s owner has been identified as Jasmeet Sahni.”Speaking to mediapersons, Sahni said, “We have permission from the district administration for construction of the school. An FIR will be registered against the building owner and its contractor.”The dead have been identified as Manoj Sharma, Parmeshwar Dayal and another unidentified person.

Fifteen people were rescued by the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel and local residents till the filing of this report.The incident occurred around 3.20 pm in the area under Ram Chandra Mission police station of the district. The injured have been admitted in nearby hospitals, three of whom are stated to be critical. District magistrate (DM) Amrit Tripathi said, “We will continue rescue operations throughout the night. An FIR will be registered against the building owner and its contractor.”The dead have been identified as Manoj Sharma, Parmeshwar Dayal and another unidentified person. All dead were residents of nearby villages.Additional district magistrate (ADM) Vandita Srivastava said, “We are trying our best to rescue those trapped under debris. An NDRF team has arrived from Lucknow. The building’s owner has been identified as Jasmeet Sahni.”Speaking to mediapersons, Sahni said, “We have permission from the district administration for construction of the school. Rajeev was looking after its construction.”Dr Mohd Meeraz, emergency medical officer, said, “Three people have died so far. The condition of another three is serious.”
