“I don’t know whether I will ever be able to walk again,” said Kumar.Another labourer whose leg is numb after an iron rod penetrated it, said he is worried on what he will do for a living if he is not able to walk. As he fell amid the dust and the debris, he felt a shooting pain on his thigh and soon realized that an iron rod had pierced it. He told TOI, “The building collapsed in front of my eyes. A survivor with a disability will be granted almost equivalent compensation which is given to the family members of the deceased.” “I cried for help for about half an hour and then lost consciousness,” he said.Now, he is in hospital but cannot move.

Shahjahanpur: Vipin Kumar was looking forward to going home with just an hour left before his shift at the construction site was to end on Sunday. Suddenly, the wooden pillars supporting the roof gave way and the building started shaking before collapsing on the labourers.Kumar was working on the first floor and fell as the roof caved in and floor sank below his feet. As he fell amid the dust and the debris, he felt a shooting pain on his thigh and soon realized that an iron rod had pierced it. “I cried for help for about half an hour and then lost consciousness,” he said.Now, he is in hospital but cannot move. “I don’t know whether I will ever be able to walk again,” said Kumar.Another labourer whose leg is numb after an iron rod penetrated it, said he is worried on what he will do for a living if he is not able to walk. “Our families are dependent on us,” said he.Mohammed Umar said he had a providential escape as he had he had gone outside to fetch some material when the incident happened. He told TOI, “The building collapsed in front of my eyes. I immediately informed residents of my village who came and started the rescue operation with the help of police.”District magistrate Amrit Tripathi told TOI," We are taking care of all the survivors and compensation will be granted according to the nature of their injuries. A survivor with a disability will be granted almost equivalent compensation which is given to the family members of the deceased.”
