Woman dies due to PF malaria, toll rises to 47 in Bareilly dist

Bareilly: The toll due to fever rose to 47 in the district after a 69-year-old woman succumbed to deadly plasmodium falciparum (PF) malaria at the Military Hospital here on Sunday night. We have been distributing medicines and conducting indoor and outdoor spraying in the affected villages,” said Dr Vineet Shukla, chief medical officer. The woman was a native of Atarchedi village under Majhgavan block, the worst affected block in the district. “We have been continuously organizing camps in the affected villages to detect fever and malaria patients. However, fresh cases of PF and PV continue to be reported and around 90% are being reported only from Majhgavan block.

The health department has so far detected 11,373 PF cases and 18,418 cases of plasmodium vivax (PV) in the district.Krishna Devi (69), mother of Subedar Major Devendra Pal Singh, died of PF malaria with severe thrombocytopenia (abnormally low level of platelets in blood) at the Military Hospital.The latest death was reported after nearly a month in the district. However, fresh cases of PF and PV continue to be reported and around 90% are being reported only from Majhgavan block. Officials said a majority of the sensitive villages are situated on the banks of river Aril. On Sunday, 227 cases of PF and 148 of PV were detected.Meanwhile, health department has been claiming that only 25 fever-related deaths have been reported till now. “We have been continuously organizing camps in the affected villages to detect fever and malaria patients. We have been distributing medicines and conducting indoor and outdoor spraying in the affected villages,” said Dr Vineet Shukla, chief medical officer.
