Bareilly: A 22-year-old resident of Barunagala village that comes under Cantt police station was found dead in mysterious circumstances at a roadside ditch on Thursday morning.The victim has been identified as Triloki Nath. His family said that he had gone to Kesharpur village to buy sweets for Diwali on Wednesday evening but he never returned.Adhlakhiya village headman spotted the victim on Thursday morning. He identified the youth and immediately informed the police as well as his family members. Police said that unidentified vehicle might have hit the youth who fell in the ditch and succumbed to his injuries. His body has been sent for postmortem. An FIR has been lodged.The deceased’s father Mahendra Pal said, “On Wednesday around 7:45 pm, Nath went out from his house to neighbour village Kesherpur village’s market for purchasing sweets and fruits for Diwali. After three hours when he didn’t return, I tried calling him on his phone several times but his phone was switched off. I immediately informed the police about the incident.“On Thursday around 7:30 am, Adhlakhiya village head Ram Nath called and informed us about the incident.”Cantonment police station house officer (SHO), Dharmendra Kumar, said, “After receiving the information about the incident by village head, we reached the spot. After much effort, we were able to pull out the victim from the ditch. He succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital.“An FIR has been lodged against unidentified driver under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. We are conducting raids to nab the accused,” Kumar said.
