Roundabout to come up on Mayurvan Chetna black spot

  • | Tuesday | 13th November, 2018

Bareilly: The Public Works Department (PWD) will construct a roundabout at Mayurvan Chetna on Pilibhit road for smooth flow of traffic and to check accidents. The stretch has two-way traffic movement and several blind turns that make it accident-prone. PWD had previously planned to widen the road to curb accidents, but now a roundabout has also been included to the project. As it will also connect the upcoming Nath Nagri Civil Terminal (Bareilly airport) with the city, it is likely to experience heavier traffic in time to come. The administration also removed encroachments and hoardings from along the road. The road widening will provide sufficient space for smooth traffic movement, while a roundabout will ease off traffic flow and also give a beautiful look to the stretch.”Rajwanshi added, “The road experiences heavy traffic flow on daily basis as it connects Bareilly city to Pilibhit.

Bareilly: The Public Works Department (PWD) will construct a roundabout at Mayurvan Chetna on Pilibhit road for smooth flow of traffic and to check accidents. The stretch has two-way traffic movement and several blind turns that make it accident-prone. Thus, it has been declared as a “black spot” with several minor and major accidents taking place here in the past.According to an earlier plan, the department had decided widen the 1.5-km-long stretch, but now it has included a roundabout in its blueprint.According to PWD officials, surveys are being conducted on the Pilibhit bypass road for the construction of a roundabout. The construction work would soon be started, they said.Officials said the estimated cost of the road-widening (making it four-lane) had been pegged at Rs 35 lakh, while the cost of the roundabout construction was yet to be ascertained.Speaking to TOI, PWD, Bareilly division, chief engineer Rakesh Rajwanshi said, “The department is taking all possible measures to make the black spot safe for the commuters, and thus, we have decided to construct a roundabout on the stretch. PWD had previously planned to widen the road to curb accidents, but now a roundabout has also been included to the project. As it will also connect the upcoming Nath Nagri Civil Terminal (Bareilly airport) with the city, it is likely to experience heavier traffic in time to come. Thus, the widening of the road and a roundabout will help check accidents as well as streamline the traffic.”Officials said the road would also be equipped with speed-breakers, traffic signage, and radium tapes would also be fixed on roadsides and dividers to improve visibility.Earlier, the district administration, PWD and traffic police department had jointly conducted a survey of the accident-prone Mayurvan Chetna road for making it safe. The administration also removed encroachments and hoardings from along the road.
