2 teams to check ‘irregularities’ in private ITIs

Bareilly: Two teams have been constituted here to check irregularities in private industrial training institutes (ITIs) following an order to the effect by director of UP social welfare department. The teams will check whether these institutes have proper recognition and infrastructure and also scan records of SC/ST students from 2014-15 till date. We have to probe whether private ITIs have recognition or not. The fees charged by private ITIs vary but the government last year had fixed the annual scholarship money for students of SC/ST community at Rs 18,400. There have been complaints that a few private ITIs have been pocketing the scholarship money of SC/ST students.Chief development officer (CDO) Satyendra Kumar recently constituted two teams after receiving the order of director of UP social welfare department.

Principal of Government ITI in CB Ganj and district minority welfare officer comprise one team and the other has the principal of Government ITI in Faridpur and district social welfare department official. The CDO has directed both teams to submit their inquiry reports within a fortnight.Jagmohan Singh, district minority welfare officer, said, “We will soon start the inquiry. We have to probe whether private ITIs have recognition or not. We have to check whether these institutes have proper building or they are being run on campus of other educational institutes.”Rajkumar Shakya, principal, ITI, CB Ganj, said, “After a complaint was lodged in Saharanpur, the probe is being conducted across the state. The fees charged by private ITIs vary but the government last year had fixed the annual scholarship money for students of SC/ST community at Rs 18,400. We will check records of students from the academic year 2014-15 till current session to see if the scholarship of any student has been grabbed by the institute concerned or not.”According to officials, Bareilly has more than 30 private ITIs but only 24 of them are functioning. Officials said nearly 4,500 students are presently enrolled at these 24 ITIs.
