Nursery boy on way to school run over by truck

She didn’t realize that the truck would suddenly swerve in their direction. We have seized the truck,” Singh added.

Bareilly: Five-year-old Rajat Babu, a nursery student who was going to school with his grandmother and older brother, was killed after a truck hit him head-on near Isapur road under Bhojipura police station around 7:30 am on Tuesday. The incident happened near Daura Danda village. An FIR under sections 279 (Rash driving on a public way) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of IPC was lodged against the driver, who fled after the accident.According to police, Gomti Devi was taking Rajat and his nine-year-old brother Amber to Tender Hearts International Public School, when a loaded truck coming from the opposite direction suddenly swerved in their direction and hit the deceased fatally in the head. Seeing the truck come towards them, Devi had tried to save both the boys, but Rajat died on the spot.The child’s father, Ashok Babu, who has been working as a sweeper at the DM’s office for the last eight years, said that Rajat had insisted on being admitted to the same school as his brother. I reached the spot after the villagers informed me and found a police team already there,” Babu added.Eye-witnesses claimed that the driver was in an inebriated state, as he smelled of alcohol. Bhojipura police station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Singh said, “We rushed to the spot after receiving information from the passers-by but the driver had already managed to escape. The boy had died on the spot. We have sent the body for post-mortem. Some eyewitness said that the driver appeared to be drunk when fleeing the spot.”“Following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, an FIR has been lodged against the unidentified truck driver under the sections 279 (Rash driving on a public way) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the IPC. We have seized the truck,” Singh added.
