Man held for threatening MP, DM; slapped with sedition charges

Moradabad: A man identified as Rohtash Kumar Yadav was arrested and sent to jail after he purportedly issued threats to BJP MP Kunwar Sarvesh Singh and Moradabad district magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh on Facebook live video.Yadav was booked for extortion and sedition after he accused both of them of failing to deliver justice to the common man.According to station house officer of Thakurdwara police station Manoj Kumar Singh, Yadav was arrested following a tip-off from near a sugar mill on Monday evening. On Tuesday, he was produced before the magistrate’s court and remanded to 14-day judicial custody.The police have also seized a mobile phone which he allegedly used while uploading his live video against the Lok Sabha Member Kunwar Sarvesh Singh and Moradabad DM Rakesh Kumar Singh.A resident Khawajapur-Dhantala of Thakurdwara sub-division, Yadav had allegedly threatened them of “serious consequences” in the video for “failing to deliver justice to the common man”.Thakurdwara police station SHO Manoj Kumar Singh claimed, “The video shows the accused issuing threats that he will not hesitate to pick up an AK-47 if justice is not delivered and may go to the extent of contacting militants or Naxals to arrange for an AK-47.” Yadav had uploaded the video on Thursday.Yadav was booked under IPC sections 124A (sedition) and 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death) besides relevant sections of the Information Technology Act on Saturday on a complaint lodged by the BJP MP’s personal secretary, Chandrapal Singh.
