The drivers were informed about the camp earlier and many of them turned up to get their eyes checked. Around 200 drivers underwent an eye check. The tests revealed that around 20% of the drivers had eye problems. Drivers who underwent the check-up were mostly diagnosed with common problems relating to poor eye-sight while a few were diagnosed with cataract.”SP, traffic, added, “The most shocking thing was that none of the drivers who complained at the camp of having vision issues while driving wore spectacles, This has aggravated their problems, Those tested with even slightest of the problems have also been advised to get spectacles and wear them while driving as ignoring their eye problems may make things worse for them.”Assistant regional transport officer (ARTO), Bareilly, RP Singh said, “The purpose of the camp was to make drivers aware about their eye problems and its adverse impact if not treated on time.”Public transport drivers were counselled about the significance of following traffic rules and regulations. They were told to avoid speeding, wrong-side driving, jumping signals and overloading their vehicles. As part of the ongoing road safety month, traffic police last week checked around 1,000 vehicles plying on the road without having proper lights. Their drivers were distributed reflective tapes to paste on the front and rear side of the vehicle to avoid road accidents.
