Bareilly: A 40-year-old man, Prem Singh, was killed and his wife critically injured after a truck hit the motorcycle they were riding on near Bukhara village under cantonment police station on Monday night.According to police, Singh and his wife were on their way home from a cousin’s wedding when the incident took place. Passers-by nabbed the accused truck driver and handed him over to police. An FIR has been lodged.Prem’s cousin Anil Chaudhary said, “My uncle, a farmer and a resident of Mortala village under Nigohi police station at Shahjahanpur district, was lone breadwinner for the family. He is survived by wife and two sons. Three days ago, he had gone to his ancestral home in Dhausnganj under Bhamora police station with his wife Kamlesh to attend his cousin Pooja’s wedding scheduled on Monday.“Locals told me that around 9.30pm, while overtaking another truck, the driver of the speeding truck hit the motorcycle. Locals and passers-by present on the spot nabbed the accused truck driver, who was trying to run away. They alerted Dial 100 team and police as well as emergency ambulance service about the incident. They handed over the accused driver to police.”Station house officer (SHO) of Cantonment police station Devendera Singh said, “We sent both injured persons to a nearby hospital, where the husband succumbed during the course of treatment, and the wife’s condition is critical. We have impounded the truck. An FIR has been lodged against the driver, Mohammad Aleem, 24, hailing from Rampur, under sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The accused was sent to jail on Tuesday.”
