Bareilly: Seven robbers struck the house of a trader and fled with jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh, Rs 3 lakh cash and a motorbike, holding family members captive for 20 minutes at gunpoint late on Wednesday night, said police.According to Prem Pal, a resident of Kali Mandir road in Behjoi, Sambhal district, around 1am on Thursday, seven armed robbers with their face covered barged into his house through terrace and held the entire family hostage at gunpoint.“Three robbers armed with pistols held me captive along with my wife Munni Devi, son Yogesh, daughter-in-law and a grandson, and locked us in a room, while four others started rummaging cupboards for valuables. They fled with jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh, Rs 3 lakh cash and a motorbike standing at the porch,” said Pal, a prominent stockist based in Mandi society.As soon as robbers fled, the family alerted police. Police officers from Behjoi police station and forensic experts collected evidences and fingerprints from the crime scene.Sambhal superintendent of police Yamuna Prasad, who also inspected the spot, said, “Police teams are chasing the robbers who disappeared in agricultural field. We have recovered the motorbike which the robbers had abandoned at the roadside near a temple in Sadatbadi village.”“Experrts have taken fingerprints and collected evidences from the crime scene. The robbers will be arrested soon,” added SP.Station house officer (SHO) of Behjoi police station inspector Amit Kumar said an FIR was registered under sections 380 (theft) and 457 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “We have been conducting raids at suspected locations of the robbers. Besides, we have also put mobile phone numbers of suspected people under surveillance. The accused will be nabbed soon.”
