Harassed by husband, woman commits suicide

Bareilly: A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Kelabagh locality under Quila police station on Sunday afternoon.Deceased woman’s parents alleged that her husband used to beat her over petty issues and had been demanding dowry. An FIR has been registered against the husband, said police, adding they are conducting raids to nab the accused, who is still at large.The deceased was identified as Jyoti Saxena, a resident of Agras village in Fatehganj West. Soon other neighbours broke open the door and found Jyoti hanging from the ceiling fan.”“They alerted police.

Since their marriage, he has been demanding cash from her parents. He also offered liquor to his friends at his house. Jyoti tried to stop him from consuming liquor with his friend at the house, but he refused. He used to beat her over petty issues such as denial of money to buy liquor.”Divulging details, SHO said, “Around 1.30 pm on Sunday, when Ravi was outside his house and their son was sleeping, Jyoti closed the door from inside and hanged herself from a ceiling fan. When one of her neighbours knocked at the door repeatedly and didn’t get any reply, she raised an alarm. Soon other neighbours broke open the door and found Jyoti hanging from the ceiling fan.”“They alerted police. After getting information, we rushed to the spot. We sent the body for postmortem. This is a case of suicide, but after receiving written complaint against Ravi from the deceased’s brother, we registered an FIR against Ravi under sections 498 A (cruelty after marriage) and 304 B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police are conducting raids to nab the accused, who is at large,” Kumar added.
