Bareilly: A group of people were stopped by the officials of the Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday after the former allegedly tried to encroach upon an open space in Qutubkhana near Ghantaghar.The officials were informed by the local shopkeepers that the group was trying to occupy the space illegally by erecting a boundary wall at the spot.After the reaching the area, the BMC officials seized concrete materials that was being used for the construction work and issued warnings to the group not undertake any unauthorized construction.Giving details, BMC officials told TOI that a group from the Arya Samaaj temple in the area had encroached the area measuring between 40 and 50 square metre.“We received complaints that a boundary wall was being erected near Ghantaghar. Upon reaching there, we found that a group had begun the construction late Tuesday night. The people involved are yet to be identified,” municipal commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shrivastava said.“As soon as the people involved are identified, an FIR will be lodged against them,” he added.Reacting to the allegations that a group from Arya Samaj temple allegedly tried to encroach the area, priest of the temple, Mahipal Arya said, “A corner of the space, which is close to the temple, was being used by the people to relieve themselves. Since it was very close to the temple, we decided to make a boundary and separate the toilet portion. However, local shopkeepers gave false information and lodged complaints with the municipal body.”
