Traffic cops penalize 75 school buses for violating norms

Eight school vehicles were identified to have not mentioned ‘On School Duty’ on vehicles.The SP (traffic) said: “We will continue crackdown on school vehicle drivers who are flouting traffic rules.” Surprisingly, most of them were not.As many as 75 buses were penalized for various traffic offences which included overloading and driving school vehicle without a permit. Contact numbers of police, transport department helpline numbers, driver contact details were also not displayed on most of the school vehicles. A total of 75 defaulters were issued challans on the spot. Surprisingly, most of them were not.As many as 75 buses were penalized for various traffic offences which included overloading and driving school vehicle without a permit. Contact numbers of police, transport department helpline numbers, driver contact details were also not displayed on most of the school vehicles. While in some vehicles, first-aid box and fire extinguishers were not functional or maintained.All the 75 buses found violating the norms were issued challans by officials who were deployed at all the prominent city junctions and outside schools.The drive will continue till January 24.Superintendent of police (traffic) Subhash Gangwar said: “Traffic police personnel were deployed at all the prominent city crossings, main roads and near schools to nab traffic offenders. A total of 75 defaulters were issued challans on the spot. A sum of Rs 2,200 was recovered as fine from them.”As per the information, maximum 17 challans were issued to bus drivers who were caught driving vehicle without a driving license.As many as 16 challans were issued for not mentioning helpline numbers of transport department and police. While 16 drivers were slapped challans for not fastening seatbelts while driving.As many as 11 vehicles were found carrying children more than the actual capacity.
