Bareilly: Police have booked nine persons for allegedly trying to loot answer copies from a board exam centre in Aliganj on Thursday night. According to the complainant, when they were on way to Bareilly to submit answer copies, a few persons looted a chain and cash worth Rs 2,000 and also tried to loot exam copies. They did not plan to loot exam copies.”Meanwhile, officials said even though crucial exams happened on Friday in two shifts, no untoward incident was reported in Bareilly district.

According to the complainant, when they were on way to Bareilly to submit answer copies, a few persons looted a chain and cash worth Rs 2,000 and also tried to loot exam copies. However, an internal probe committee which was constituted by district inspector of schools in its report on Friday said an argument took place between school staff and locals as the latter assumed a school vehicle was public transport, but no one tried to loot exam copies.Hariom Mishra, principal of Gauri Shankar Inter College, Gulariya, in his written complaint to police said, “The school’s vehicle was on its way to Bareilly city to submit board exam copies on Thursday evening. When it reached near Aliganj tri-section, nine persons fought with the vehicle’s driver and me. They tried to loot exam copies and the seal got broken in the commotion, but the copies are safe. The other persons in the vehicle were teachers. The accused also looted my chain and cash worth Rs 2,000.”Station officer, Aliganj police station, Vishal Pratap said, “An FIR has been lodged against four named persons and five unidentified men under IPC’s sections 395 (dacoity), 332 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person) and 186 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty). We are investigating the matter.”However, the education department claimed that there was no pre-planned motive to loot exam copies. Avnish Yadav, exam controller of UP board exams in Bareilly said, “A committee which probed the matter in its report said the school’s vehicle stopped at Aliganj tri-section and a few teachers got out to drink water. However, a few locals were waiting for public transport to go to Bareilly city to attend a wedding. The locals assumed the school vehicle was public transport and had an argument with the driver, who did not let them in. They did not plan to loot exam copies.”Meanwhile, officials said even though crucial exams happened on Friday in two shifts, no untoward incident was reported in Bareilly district. “Exams were conducted peacefully in both shifts on Friday and not a single case of cheating was reported,” said Yadav.
