UP to award govt primary school principals for innovative edu sys

Pilibhit: For the first time in UP, state basic education administration has decided to award those principals of government primary and upper primary schools across the state who have contributed towards improving quality of education and introduced innovative methods of learning besides sprucing up school premises, maintaining sanitation and quality of midday meal.Additional director, basic education, Lalita Pradeep, said, the aim is to acknowledge skills, innovations, contributions and ideas of principals in improving learning and teaching methodologies.For the purpose, the department has invited three-five-minute videos of principals concerned along with their interviews on the basis of which the best will be selected for the award.This plan is also aimed at improving status of students’ enrollment in government primary and upper primary schools, which dropped by over 7 lakh during the current academic session in comparison to the previous one.Giving details about Pilibhit, district coordinator of basic education department Rakesh Patel told TOI that the district has 1,231 primary and 571 upper primary schools and from these 25 principals had made special efforts by using their own financial resources to bring about a fundamental change in schools’ overall status.One such principal, Vaibhav Jaiswal of upper primary school at Kainch village in Marauri block told TOI that he equipped the classrooms with computers and projectors to facilitate audio video classes of science, environment, forest, wildlife, water resources and other subjects.He said for the present academic 222 students had enrolled in his school whereas when he took charge in 2016, the school had merely 41 students.Another principal from a primary school at Madhotanda under Kalinagar tehsil, Rubi Hassan Khan, said she had invested over Rs 1.5 lakh from her own pocket in transforming the educational system and school premises.
