Swine flu cases rise to 25, majority patients from Bareilly city

Bareilly: Swine flu cases continue to rise in Bareilly, with four more people testing positive for H1N1 virus on Tuesday. Of the total 25 cases reported from January, 22 are from the city.Of the nine suspected cases reported earlier, four have tested positive for swine flu. They have reiterated that if treatment starts on time, there is better chance of recovery.Symptoms of swine flu include fever, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhoea, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, nausea and vomiting. Barring the 46-year-old woman who is from Almorah, the other three patients are from the city. This includes a six-year-old boy, a 24-year-old man, a 26-year-old girl and a 46-year-old woman.

Officials said that they have provided medicines to the families of all the patients as a preventive step.Apart from 25 people, three others are undergoing treatment in city hospitals.All the three are natives of Haldwani, Badaun and Pilibhit, respectively. Officials have informed their counterparts in these districts and these wont be added to the cases already reported from Bareily.In 2019, Bareilly had reported a single case of death from swine flu.Dr Meesam Abbas, district epidemiologist, said, “As it is favourable climatic condition for H1N1 virus, people should follow precautionary measures. People belonging to high risk group, including pregnant women, elderly and children aged below eight years of age, should take special attention in following precautionary measures.”Experts said the H1N1 virus is an air-borne contagious disease and spreads when a person sneezes. The infected droplets land on nearby objects like table or mobile phones and when a healthy person happens to touch these objects, they can get infected.Officials have asked people to cover their faces with a handkerchief while sneezing or coughing and to repeatedly wash their hand with soap. People should not reuse handkerchief or tissues. They should drink abundant water and eat healthy food. They have reiterated that if treatment starts on time, there is better chance of recovery.Symptoms of swine flu include fever, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhoea, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, nausea and vomiting.
