2 cops suspended for demanding bribe from retd Army man

Bareilly: Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muniraj G on Monday suspended two policemen, Pawan Kumar,24, a trainee sub inspector at Provincial Armed Constabulary (UP-PAC) and Ankit Kumar, 34, a constable with Dial 100 team, for allegedly demanding a bribe from a 73-year-old retired Army man.An FIR has been lodged against the two constables and an accomplice, who are on the run, police said.According to superintendent of police, city, Abhinandan Singh, on February 16, both policemen allegedly took the retired Army man to the constable's room in Jogi Nawada locality and told him to pay them Rs 5 lakh or else they would frame him in a fake drug peddling case.The victim, identified as Ramkumar Gupta, is a resident of Devchara village under Bhamora police station.Giving details, Abhinandan Singh said, “Gupta had retired from the Army as honourary subedar major. On the evening of February 16, he went to the market at Station road under Kotwali police station.
