Jeweller shot dead on way home, Rs 3L missing

Pilibhit: A jeweller of Bisalpur town, Sanjeev Verma (48), was shot dead near Shahbazpur village under Bisalpur Kotwali police station on Monday night when he was returning home with Rs 3 lakh he had collected in lieu of selling jewellery. His body was found in the shrubs on the bank of river Devha. Sonu had embraced another religion many years ago.The deceased’s son, Krishna, told TOI that his father had sold some ornaments to villagers on the recommendation of his uncle, Sonu. His would soon be arrested, he added. The money was missing.In a written complaint filed with police, the deceased’s wife, Sunita Verma, alleged that his younger brother, Sonu alias Arif, a resident of Bhagwantapur village under Faridpur police station in Bareilly district, was responsible.

On the night of his murder, his father was returning from Sonu’s house on his bike after collecting Rs 3 lakh.Sunita alleged in her complaint that Sonu had blackmailed her husband in the past for money.Jai Pal Singh, SHO of Bisalpur Kotwali, said an FIR was lodged against Sonu alias Arif under IPC section 302 (murder). His would soon be arrested, he added.
