Stray bull gores farmer to death in UP’s Kheri

Lakhimpur Kheri: A 48-year-old farmer died after he was gored to death by a raging bull in a village in Mohammdi block of Lakhimpur Kheri district. "On January 28, a 55-year-old farmer, Deenbandhu, was killed by a raging bull in Neemgaon area of Lakhimpur Kheri district. Two days earlier, a bull gored to death a 30-year-old farmer in Badaun's Mugara Jarasi village.On January 10, a stray bull escaped from a temporary cowshed in Bilsi town of Badaun district and attacked a 13-year-old boy. On January 28, a 55-year-old farmer was killed in a similar manner by a bull in the district. The bull attacked the farmer in his agricultural field around 4 pm on Monday.

The bull attacked the farmer in his agricultural field around 4 pm on Monday. His family members rushed him to a private hospital but he was declared brought dead. The bereaved family has now written to the sub-divisional magistrate, seeking action against stray cattle menace in the Mohammdi block.This is second incident in the past two months. On January 28, a 55-year-old farmer was killed in a similar manner by a bull in the district. Several people have also been injured by stray cattle.According to a witness, farmer Om Prakash Verma of Raipur Khurd village was working in his field when an enraged bull charged at him.The bull tossed him in the air and pierced its horn into his stomach. All of this happened so quickly that other farmers could not help him. By the time they rushed to his aid, Verma had lost consciousness. He was taken to Shahjahanpur district hospital but died on the way.Sub-divisional magistrate Swati Shukla has assured a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to Verma’s family under farmer insurance scheme.“The same bull had earlier attacked and injured three others but no action was taken by the district administration to tackle it. We have sought compensation for Verma’s family and demanded action against stray cattle that destroy our crops,” said a local leader of the Patel community Pradeep Verma.Shukla said Verma owned around 3 acres of agricultural land. He is survived by his wife Susheela and four sons.“We have asked the gram panchayat concerned to shift the stray cattle to temporary cow sheds set up in the area,” she added.DK Singh, SHO, Mohammdi police station, told TOI, "The family approached us to file a complaint but we told them it is not possible to file an FIR against cattle. We advised them to contact the district administration. We have sent the body for an autopsy.
