According to the BDA officials, there are several establishments which have building layout approved in the residential category but are being used to carry out commercial activities. The owners have now converted a part of these buildings to run shops and other commercial establishments. The development authority will be seeking building approvals from the owners and if found that the owner concerned lacks an approved commercial layout but is running it for commercial use, he will be facing legal action.

Bareilly: Bareilly Development Authority (BDA) will soon be undertaking drives across the city to check on illegal practice of running commercial activities from residential units. According to the BDA officials, there are several establishments which have building layout approved in the residential category but are being used to carry out commercial activities. To check the violation, drives will be launched in upscale city localities, including Rampur Garden, Civil Lines and adjacent areas. The identified establishments will be sealed or demolished.Speaking with TOI, Bareilly Development Authority secretary AK Singh said, “It has been observed that people, mostly in prominent city localities, have converted their residential buildings into commercial units. The layouts of these buildings were earlier approved under residential category by the development authority. However, they were later converted into commercial units. The owners have now converted a part of these buildings to run shops and other commercial establishments. This is a violation of BDA’s norms as the building layout was passed as residential. Now, enforcement drives will be launched to crack down on such violators and legal action will be initiated against them.”BDA secretary added, “Violations are rampant in upscale city localities such as Civil Lines, Rampur Garden area and thus, the crackdown will be focused on these areas. The development authority will be seeking building approvals from the owners and if found that the owner concerned lacks an approved commercial layout but is running it for commercial use, he will be facing legal action. The notices will be served to defaulters to get a layout plan approved for commercial use failing which, process of sealing or demolition will be undertaken.”Earlier this month, BDA, district administration and police had jointly launched an eviction drive at Math Laxmipur, a commercial yojana under BDA, located at Mini Bypass. The yojana was reeling under encroachments by various commercial establishments, shops and local vendors. During the drive, more than 250-300 sq-metre of BDA land under unauthorized possession of liquor shops, scrap dealers, wholesale concrete shops, etc was cleared.
