Man killed by a tiger inside Dudhwa tiger reserve

Forest officials believe that the man was killed by the tiger inside the Katarniaghat forest as the man had gone to collect wood from the forest area on Saturday morning. Shahjahanpur: Partially eaten body of a 65-year-old farmer was recovered from a field in Suratnagar village of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Saturday evening. The village is situated on the border of Katarniaghat forest in Bahraich district. We had alerted the locals about the presence of tigers in forest area but people still entered.” We denied compensation in this case but district magistrate offered it under state calamity relief funds.

Shahjahanpur: Partially eaten body of a 65-year-old farmer was recovered from a field in Suratnagar village of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Saturday evening. Forest officials believe that the man was killed by the tiger inside the Katarniaghat forest as the man had gone to collect wood from the forest area on Saturday morning. Body has been sent for autopsy and district magistrate Lakhimpur Kheri Shailandra Singh has decided to offer a compensation of Rs five Lakh under state relief funds to the deceased’s family.Munshi Lal was a resident of Barsola village of Nighasan block in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The village is situated on the border of Katarniaghat forest in Bahraich district. When Munshi didn’t return home after collecting wood, local villagers started a manhunt and recovered his body from a field.DFO North Kheri forest division Anil Patel said, “Initial investigation suggests that the man was killed by a tiger inside the Katarniaghat forests and the villagers had kept the body in the field situated on the edge of Dudhwa tiger reserve so that the compensation is granted. We denied compensation in this case but district magistrate offered it under state calamity relief funds. We had alerted the locals about the presence of tigers in forest area but people still entered.”
