In compliance with orders of National Green Tribunal (NGT) the administration has restricted burning of crop residue in the district. It has also released an appeal to farmers, stating out detrimental effects if found practicing burning. 

District Magistrate Pulkit Khare on Tuesday constituted an eight member monitoring committee under the chairmanship of additional DM (finance and revenue) Atul Singh, to keep a close eye on burning of crop residue.

In compliance with orders of National Green Tribunal (NGT) the administration has restricted burning of crop residue in the district. It has also released an appeal to farmers, stating out detrimental effects if found practicing burning.

The DM stated that he has given deputy director of agriculture, Yashraj Singh responsibility of enforcing action against defaulters and sending daily reports to the state administration. He stated that ‘’defaulters will be slapped with INR 2500 fine in case their land holding is less than two acres, INR 5000 if their land measures over two acres but less than five acres and INR 15000 if the land area is over five acres’’.  

He further added that directions have been issued to create WhasApp groups of village pradhans nad lekhpals in every tehsil and block for immediate and flawless reporting and communication.

In addition to this sub-divisional magistrates have been asked to form flying squads to monitor on the ground situation in the agricultural areas.

Referring to scientific studies, DM in his appeal to farmers pointed that burning one ton of crop residue leads to hefty air pollution, causes deterioration in soil fertility and kills soil-friendly insects.
