Govt employee fined Rs 500 for wearing jeans

BAREILLY: District magistrate Surendra Singh slapped a collectorate employee with a fine of Rs 500 after finding him wearing jeans and with a pan in his mouth. Qureshi was wearing jeans and chewing paan. Not only was the clerk fined Rs 500 right then, he was also issued a warning by the magistrate. "After the state government issued guidelines in this regard, all employees were notified about a fortnight ago. Of late, the DM has issued guidelines regarding the clothing and conduct of staff, asking them not to chew paan and gutka in office and not to wear jeans.

Singh has also begun locking up parking lot at the collectorate during office hours so that employees do not slip away from work.On Friday, the DM was on an unannounced round where he bumped into Anwar Husain Qureshi , a clerk who works at the special land acquisition office. Qureshi was wearing jeans and chewing paan. Not only was the clerk fined Rs 500 right then, he was also issued a warning by the magistrate."After the state government issued guidelines in this regard, all employees were notified about a fortnight ago. Today, we took action against an employee in order to send out a larger message that we have zero tolerance for undisciplined workers. Stringent disciplinary actions will be taken against repeat offenders," Singh told TOI.As per the government's guidelines, staff are supposed to come to office wearing "shaleen kapade" (decent clothes) and abstain from smoking and chewing gutka or paan at their workplace.Since Thursday, the DM has also started locking the parking lot to ensure that employees don't bunk office during working hours. Also, all 174 employees have started marking their attendance through a biometric machine.
