Four children accidentally lock themselves inside car, two die of suffocation

Amroha: Two children died of suffocation after they accidentally locked themselves inside a car at Maheshera village under the jurisdiction of Rajabpur police station. No complaint has been lodged with the police.According to police, four children of the village got into their neighbour’s car parked nearby and accidentally locked it from inside. That is why the children were not pulled out of the car on time,” said Lekhraj, a resident.A snacks seller, Rajender, was the first to notice the children trapped inside the car at around 3 pm. After a while, the children fell unconscious due to shortage of air inside.Four hours later, a snack seller noticed they were inside. As the car has tinted glass, not much was visible inside.The snack seller raised an alarm, gathering residents who smashed the window glass and pulled the children out.

They broke open car’s window pane, pulled out the children and rushed them to hospital, where two were declared brought dead and remaining two were admitted into the ICU under critical condition.Five-year-old Ritika and Shiva Yadav, 4, died due to suffocation while Ritik, 6, and Nebha, 5, are battling for their lives.According to the police, the car is owned by a neighbour, Nanhy Singh. It was parked outside his house for quite some time as it was damaged in an accident.The children were last seen by neighbours at about 11 o'clock playing near the damaged car.“Most of the residents were out working in their fields as it is harvesting season while the children were left behind at home. That is why the children were not pulled out of the car on time,” said Lekhraj, a resident.A snacks seller, Rajender, was the first to notice the children trapped inside the car at around 3 pm. He saw Ritik struggling to open the lock. As the car has tinted glass, not much was visible inside.The snack seller raised an alarm, gathering residents who smashed the window glass and pulled the children out. The police were informed.Doctors said since the car was parked in the open, two of the children probably lost consciousness due to the hot and humid weather, which led to their death.Speaking with TOI, SHO, Rajabpura, Satish Kumar Sharma blamed parents for leaving the children on their own for several hours. No case has been registered. The parents have said no to a postmortem of the deceased children, he added.
