Miffed with tipplers, Moradabad residents write 'house for sale' on walls

BAREILLY: Around a dozen families from Sanjay Nagar locality under Katghar area of Moradabad district are ready to leave their homes. They have now written " house for sale " on the entry walls and are set to move out. We can't pass through the stretch that leads to the liquor shop . Sanjay Nagar is about 250 metres from a highway and before the apex court order, drunkards used to crowd three liquor vends there. They claim that their lives have been turned into hell by hordes of tipplers who gather around the area and create nuisance every day.

BAREILLY: Around a dozen families from Sanjay Nagar locality under Katghar area of Moradabad district are ready to leave their homes. They have now written " house for sale " on the entry walls and are set to move out."It has become very difficult to live here. We can't pass through the stretch that leads to the liquor shop . Incidents of eve-teasing and molestation have literally multiplied and whoever has tried to confront a drunkard has been beaten up. We have approached police, but not action has been taken," said Lalita Devi , a local resident.Some of the other residents claim that the number of tipplers here has increased manifold after the Supreme Court ordered a ban on sale of liquor within 500 metres of a highway. Sanjay Nagar is about 250 metres from a highway and before the apex court order, drunkards used to crowd three liquor vends there."It has become impossible to visit shops in the area. Every time we go out, we are either teased or touched by boozers. On occasions, we had to skip college because of this problem. We have now decided to leave the area and settle somewhere else. Over a dozen families here want to sell their homes," said a girl college student from the area.Meanwhile, police claim to be looking into the residents' problem. "Ever since it came to our knowledge that some residents in Sanjay Nagar have written 'house for sale' on walls because of problems caused by drunkards, the concerned police station and its SHO has been instructed to take rounds of the area throughout the day. Two constables will also be deployed near the liquor shop and strict action will be taken if anyone is found creating ruckus or indulging in an unlawful or anti-social activity," circle officer Chakrapani Tripathi told TOI.He added that the liquor shop has been here for years and has been legally running after obtaining a licence from the excise department.
